Picnic and Thrift is more than just a market. It is an eco-conscious community and growing national platform that connects local businesses, creatives and talented individuals with spaces where sustainable enterprises can thrive. As co-founder, I have played an integral role in developing Picnic and Thrift from a small, neighborhood garden market into a multifaceted thrifting and community platform. Through this journey, I have helped create opportunities that have enabled small businesses to grow from side hustles into meaningful and sustainable sources of income. My contributions include on-boarding new communities, organisations and local partners, identifying and sourcing venues that support sustainable businesses and community-led events, expanding our community through social engagement, events and awareness campaigns and supporting new vendors by providing a platform for them to increase their income and provide financial support for their families. I have also helped create opportunities for collaboration between businesses, creatives and members of the community, bringing people together through shared interests, meaningful experiences and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Guilt-Free Getaways and Student State were once separate companies but they are now merging. These companies further reflect my commitment to creating accessible opportunities for growth and income. These platforms connect students and other individuals with opportunities to earn additional income through meaningful work such as childcare and pet-care – often areas that align with their personal interests and passions. Through these businesses, I have helped individuals gain valuable work experience, develop practical skills and access opportunities that may not have been available to them otherwise. I have also contributed to the growth and management of a platform that brings together childcare and pet-care services within one supportive community.

Together, these ventures have allowed me to grow three successful businesses while creating opportunities for others. My journey has not only been about personal development and entrepreneurship; it has been about building communities, supporting families, encouraging collaboration and helping people move towards greater independence and growth. I am proud to have helped established businesses that create real value by connecting people, supporting local enterprise and opening doors to opportunities that can positively influence individuals, families and communities.

Being nominated for the Rising Star Award reflects the entrepreneurial journey I have built through growing three businesses, supporting local enterprises, creating income opportunities, promoting sustainability and strengthening communities.

My vision for the future is to become a purpose-driven leader who uses entrepreneurship, creativity and community building to create meaningful opportunities for others. I hope to continue developing businesses that support local talent, encourage sustainable practices, create income opportunities and help people gain valuable experiences.

For South Africa, I envision a future where people are empowered to become leaders, business owners and contributors to their communities. I believe we need to support small businesses, improve access to opportunities and create platforms where local talent can thrive and innovate. I would like to see entrepreneurship become more accessible, especially for students and individuals who may not have access to traditional employment or resources.

As a leader, I would like to lead with integrity, empathy and accountability. I aim to create spaces where people feel valued and confident enough to share their values and ideas. My hope is to contribute to a South Africa that is more sustainable, inclusive and economically empowered. A South Africa that is not only measured by individual success, but also by the number of people and communities that are uplifted along the way.
