I am a South African amateur Jewish golfer and postgraduate student at the University of St Andrews. Over the past few years, I have combined academic excellence with competing at the highest levels of amateur and professional golf.
I have been nominated for this award because of my achievements in golf, including representing South Africa internationally, winning major amateur tournaments and becoming the first University of St Andrews student to compete on the DP World Tour while studying. My role is to represent my country and community with professionalism and pride while striving to perform at the highest level of the sport. Through my achievements and perseverance, I hope to inspire other young Jewish athletes to pursue ambitious goals and believe in their ability to succeed.
I have excelled academically and in golf while proudly representing South Africa and the Jewish community internationally, achieving at the highest levels while balancing elite sport with postgraduate study.
My vision is to continue pursuing excellence in golf while using my platform to inspire young South Africans, particularly young Jewish golfers, to believe in their potential. I want to represent South Africa with pride and use my experiences to give back to the next generation.
For South Africa, I hope to see a more united society where people from different backgrounds come together rather than being divided by inequality. I believe sport has a unique ability to bring people together, create shared experiences and provide opportunities to young people who may not otherwise have them. I want to use my platform to help break down barriers, promote opportunity and play a small part in addressing the vast inequality that still exists in our country.
Over the past few years, I’ve put in the hours, faced countless setbacks, and kept going. No one saw the range sessions in the UK, freezing wind and rain, or the tournaments where I fell short. Those were the moments when quitting would have been the easy option. I didn’t.
That persistence led to representing South Africa and winning one of the country’s biggest amateur events, making every difficult session worthwhile. But I’m most proud of what it represents: believing in yourself when no one is watching and continuing to work when the results aren’t there yet.
I hope my journey inspires other young Jewish golfers, and young people more broadly, to see setbacks as part of the journey rather than the end of it. If I can turn years of failure, sacrifice and hard work into representing my country and competing at the highest level, I hope others believe they can achieve whatever they set their minds to.
