I am an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a Director and Partner at Fluxmans Incorporated, an established South African full-service law firm. My practice encompasses commercial litigation, insolvency and restructuring, business rescue and corporate recovery, as well as criminal law and criminal litigation. These are significant and active components of my practice, and I regularly represent corporate entities, insolvency practitioners and private individuals in complex, high-stakes and sensitive matters.
As a Director and Partner, my role extends beyond practising law. I am responsible for the management of key client relationships and complex matters, the development and implementation of litigation strategy, supervision and mentorship of junior professionals, business development, and contributing to the strategic development and growth of the firm.
What I believe distinguishes me as a rising star is the breadth of responsibility I have assumed relatively early in my career, coupled with my commitment to developing expertise across demanding areas of practice. I have been involved in major and high-profile insolvency, restructuring and business rescue matters, including transactions that have received Business Rescue Transaction of the Year recognition, while simultaneously maintaining a substantial and active criminal litigation practice. My approach is characterised by meticulous preparation, strategic thinking, sound judgment and an understanding that effective representation requires an appreciation not only of the law, but also of the commercial, financial, personal and reputational consequences facing a client.
I also believe that being a rising professional should be measured by more than one’s individual practice. Mentorship, leadership and service to the profession and broader community are important to me. In 2026, I was appointed as a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court, through which I contribute directly to the administration of justice and access to justice. I remain committed to pro bono legal work and am currently involved in an initiative aimed at establishing a fund to support the safety and wellbeing of legal practitioners, associated professionals and their families who face threats or security risks arising from their professional duties.
Ultimately, I consider myself a rising star because I am committed to building a career that combines technical excellence and successful legal practice with leadership, mentorship, public service and meaningful contribution to the profession. I continue to challenge myself professionally, take on significant responsibility and seek opportunities to contribute beyond the immediate demands of my own practice.
I believe my nomination reflects my professional achievements, leadership, involvement in complex and high-profile matters, commitment to excellence, mentorship, public service, and contribution to the legal profession and broader community.
My vision for my future as a leader is to continue building a career defined not simply by professional success, but by integrity, accountability, service and the positive impact I am able to have on others. I want to continue growing as a legal practitioner and leader while using the experience and opportunities I have been fortunate to receive to mentor younger professionals, create opportunities for others and contribute meaningfully to the legal profession and broader community.
I believe strongly that leadership carries responsibilities beyond one’s title or position. Whether through my professional practice, mentorship of younger colleagues, pro bono work, service as a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court, community involvement or initiatives aimed at protecting professionals who face threats because of the work they perform, I want my career to demonstrate that professional achievement and service to others should go hand in hand.
My vision for South Africa is equally grounded in ethical leadership, accountability, the rule of law and opportunity. South Africa has extraordinary people, talent and potential, but realising that potential requires leaders across business, government, the professions and civil society who are prepared to act with integrity, accept responsibility and place the interests of the country and its people above narrow self-interest.
I would like to see a South Africa in which background does not determine opportunity, where young people are given the education, mentorship and opportunities necessary to realise their potential, where vulnerable communities are uplifted, where people feel safe, and where access to justice is a reality rather than an ideal. I also believe that we have a responsibility to protect our natural environment and ensure that the country we build is sustainable for future generations.
Ultimately, my ambition is to be remembered not merely for the matters I handled or the professional positions I held, but for the people I helped, the professionals I mentored, the opportunities I created and the contribution I made to my profession, my community and South Africa. I believe meaningful leadership is ultimately measured by what one leaves behind and by whether one’s success has contributed to the success and wellbeing of others.
Over the last few years, I have sought to demonstrate that significant personal challenges need not define one’s future or limit one’s ambitions. A few years ago, I faced one of the greatest challenges of my life when I was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer, underwent major surgery as a result thereof and inevitably changed my perspective on life, opportunity and what truly matters.
Rather than allowing that experience to diminish my ambitions, I made a conscious decision to continue pursuing them. In the years that followed, I progressed professionally to become a Director and Partner at Fluxmans Incorporated, while continuing to build an active practice across commercial litigation, insolvency and restructuring, business rescue and criminal litigation. I have also had the privilege of working on significant and high-profile matters alongside some of South Africa’s leading senior counsel.
At the same time, I have sought to ensure that professional advancement is accompanied by service and contribution to others. I remain committed to mentoring younger professionals and undertaking pro bono work, and in 2026 I was appointed as a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court, enabling me to contribute directly to access to justice and the administration of justice. I am also currently involved in establishing an initiative aimed at supporting the safety and wellbeing of legal practitioners, associated professionals and their families who face threats or security risks arising from their professional duties.
During this period, I have also been fortunate to receive professional recognition, including being named a Mail & Guardian 200 Young South African, receiving recognition through the 40 Under 40 Awards, being a winner in the 100 South African Shining Stars Legal Category, and being elected an INSOL Future Leader of South Africa.
What I hope others can take from my journey is that adversity does not have to extinguish ambition. Life can present circumstances that we neither expect nor choose, but we retain a choice as to how we respond to them. With the right mindset, determination, support and a willingness to keep moving forward, it is possible to continue setting goals, pursuing one’s ambitions and, importantly, continuing to dream.
For me, resilience is not about pretending that difficult experiences are insignificant; it is about refusing to allow those experiences to determine the limits of what comes next. If my journey can inspire others in any way, I hope it demonstrates that a setback, however significant, does not have to define one’s story. It can provide perspective, strengthen one’s sense of purpose and reinforce the determination to make the opportunities that follow truly count.
