Painted by Yakira is a growing creative business offering original artwork, murals, commissions, workshops and art lessons. As the founder and artist, I have built my business from the ground up, turning my passion for art into a career that allows me to create, teach and inspire others. What makes me a Rising Star is not only the growth of my business, but my commitment to making art accessible, sharing my knowledge and encouraging others to discover their own creativity.

I was nominated because I have transformed a passion for art into a thriving business, inspiring others through creativity, teaching, and an ever-expanding artistic impact.

My vision is to grow as a creative leader while using art to inspire, educate and create opportunities for others. I hope to build a sustainable South African creative business that celebrates our talent, culture and diversity, while contributing to a future where young creatives are encouraged to pursue their passions and see that the arts can be both a meaningful and viable career.

Simply put, I kept going. I have had some absolutely incredible opportunities, painting murals at Yeshiva College Primary School, King David Linksfield Nursery School, Tara and Fourways Life Hospital, and have my art hung up in hundreds of peoples homes. It is not that that would inspire anyone, but choosing to carry on despite the constant rejection, the projects that never quite got off the ground, hearing “thanks, but we’ve found someone more experienced” one too many times, and the hours I’ve spent wondering if I’m doing the right thing but choosing to keep going anyways.
