VezoPay (nominated with Lawrence Baker)

I’m Founder and Director of Vezo, a smart ring that lets people make secure, contactless payments directly from their finger- no phone, card, or wallet required. We tokenize your existing bank card onto the ring via our mobile app, so tapping to pay is as effortless as a Knock to Pay. Despite being told bank integration was impossible, we’re now Visa and Mastercard approved and live with 3 of South Africa’s biggest banks, with more in pilot locally and internationally. Beyond payments, we’re already in beta with additional features stored on the same ring, including a digital business card, emergency medical card, shopping cards, access control, and authentication – turning Vezo into an all-in-one identity and payments device. We’ve secured backing from major investors including Phute Mahanyele (Naspers CEO/3 Birds Group), Jonathan Smit (PayFast), and Brandon Bekker and Paul Stafford (ex-Mimecast directors). Alongside Vezo, I also lead Zourvex, an AI-powered procurement platform helping businesses source smarter and faster- reflecting my broader drive to build technology that removes friction from everyday processes.

Told it was impossible to get SA bank accreditation, I proved otherwise- now Visa/Mastercard approved, live with 3 of SA’s biggest banks, with more in pilot locally and abroad and 1000s of customers loving the tech in the first few months.

My vision is for Vezo to become the way Africa pays, proves who it is, and moves through daily life — one ring, nothing to charge, nothing demanded back from you. I want to take what we’ve built here — technology banks once called impossible -and prove that world-class fintech innovation can be built in South Africa and exported to the world, not just imported. Beyond Vezo, through Zourvex I want to keep building tools that remove friction from how businesses and people operate. Ultimately, I want my work to be part of a generation of South African founders who show that global-caliber technology doesn’t need to start in Silicon Valley -it can start here.
