Blok

I have built Blok into an award-winning, design-led developer, launching 22 Cape Town projects while investing beyond buildings to create more connected, walkable & liveable neighbourhoods.

I am an architect by training, an entrepreneur by instinct & a city-builder by conviction. I founded Blok in 2014 to create thoughtfully designed urban homes that connect people to their neighbourhoods & improve the city around them. Blok has now launched 22 developments across Cape Town, supported by Fluent, our short-term rental & hospitality business. As Founder & CEO, I set the long-term vision & standards, allocate capital, build the leadership team & remain closely involved in the decisions that define a project: acquisition, planning, design, funding, sales, construction & customer experience. My role is to hold the whole picture – product, people, place & commercial reality, & ensure that growth never becomes an excuse to dilute quality or purpose.

Over the next five years, I want to help Blok evolve from a successful developer into an enduring South African urban institution: larger & more capable, but still obsessive about product, customers & place. Personally, that means becoming less central to every answer & more effective at building leaders, systems & a culture that can outlast me. For South Africa, I remain fundamentally optimistic. Our cities can absorb growth more intelligently through compact, mixed-use, walkable neighbourhoods that connect people to opportunity & make better use of existing infrastructure. Business has a responsibility to invest with a longer horizon than the next transaction. If leaders combine commercial discipline with courage, innovation & genuine civic partnership, we can create confidence, jobs & places in which people choose to build their futures.

I have kept investing & building through a period marked by a pandemic, interest-rate volatility, construction inflation, municipal delays & intense uncertainty. Blok progressed from 19 developments in 2025 to its 22nd in 2026, while expanding into new precincts & being named SCAPE Developer of the Year in 2024. More important than the number of projects is how we have tried to grow: by treating design as a commercial advantage, placing the customer & product ahead of competitor obsession, investing in public spaces, & accepting that experimentation sometimes fails. I have also shared the less polished parts of the journey with entrepreneurs & young property professionals. I believe inspiration is more useful when it includes mistakes, doubt & recovery – not only the finished success story.
