David Zidel

Business coach, radio host, author, thought leader.

I was nominated because of the impact I am having on sharing the knowledge of highly successful business people with people that would not otherwise have access to these stories and business insight.

I am an educator, entrepreneur, author, business coach, mentor, business simulations developer and radio business show host. I make business knowledge practical and help people make better business decisions through Edutainment.

I believe I was nominated because my career has not been built around a single success, but around a sustained commitment to education, mentorship, entrepreneurship and making a difference to the people I work with.

I have been teaching business for almost three decades, including MBA and executive education programmes, and I have had the privilege of lecturing at some of the leading business schools in South Africa and abroad. I was recognised as Wits Business School’s Best Part-Time Lecturer of the Year in 2010 and was runner-up in 2013. In 2021, I was honoured with the ORT Mentor of the Year Award. I have also been appointed an Executive Fellow at Henley Business School.

But I believe the greatest achievement is not an award or title. It is the number of people who have become more confident, more commercially aware and more capable because I took something complicated and made it understandable.

Personally, my vision is to remain curious, useful and relevant. I want to continue learning, sharing what I learn and using my experience to create opportunities for others.

For South Africa, I believe we need to grow the culture of entrepreneurship, accountability, practical education and personal responsibility. We need to equip people not only to look for jobs, but to understand business well enough to create value, build businesses and employ others.
