I am an attorney and senior partner at a boutique law firm in South Africa, where I specialise in corporate and commercial law, governance, and cooperative governance. Our firm, with roots dating back to 1936, has earned its reputation for integrity, excellence, and client trust. My own professional journey has been guided not only by the technical demands of law, but also by the values instilled in me by my Jewish heritage – values of honesty, fairness, responsibility, and service to others.
To be nominated for the Jewish Achiever Awards has been an overwhelming honour and a profound surprise. I stand humbled by the legacy of those who have walked this path before me, and I recognise the weight of this recognition. I believe I was nominated not solely for professional accomplishments, but because my career has been about trying to embody the qualities of a good Jewish person: to act with kindness, to keep my word, to uphold integrity, and to contribute meaningfully to the communities and institutions I serve.
Law, at its best, is not simply a career. It is a calling to be a custodian of justice and fairness. Throughout my years of practice, I have sought to honour that calling by ensuring that every client, whether an individual or a corporation, is met with respect and diligence. My work in company and cooperative governance reflects my belief that ethical leadership and accountability are the bedrock of sustainable success – principles that resonate both in Jewish tradition and in modern corporate life.
I do not aspire to this award because of any titles I hold or committees I have served on, but rather because I hope my life demonstrates the simple yet profound lesson: that doing good and being trustworthy matters. As our sages teach in Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers 2:21), “It is not your responsibility to finish the work, but neither are you free to desist from it.” This has been my guiding principle: to contribute where I can, to improve what is before me, and to leave the world just a little better than I found it.
If I were to be chosen as a winner, I would see it not as a personal victory, but as a testament to the enduring power of Jewish values in professional and civic life. It would affirm that success is measured not only by achievements, but by how faithfully one lives out the ideals of truth, integrity, compassion, and responsibility.
In closing, my nomination is a privilege I deeply treasure. Whether or not I win, I remain committed to being the kind of lawyer, community member, and Jewish person whose word can be trusted, whose actions reflect kindness, and whose legacy honours both my faith and my profession.
Vision: I strive to embody Jewish values of integrity, kindness, and truth, using my legal career to build trust, serve others, and leave the world better than I found it.
